This series of 69 humorous drawings (of which only half are presented here) was created in 1849 but published only 150 years later. Fritz von Dardel's style is similar to that of Rodolphe Toepffer, an artist from Geneva considered as one of the creators of comic strips. Mr. Black is always shown with his high hat, whereas Mr. Smith is accompanied by voluminous luggage. The handwritten legends under each original picture are in French. Some of the pictures are related to those of the "Bomarsund" album and the "Trip to Norway" shown in the
previous page). Click on each thumbnail to enlarge the picture and read the legend, which I translated to English.
The book contains the translations to Swedish of all legends as well as a large postface, in Swedish as well. It was published in 1991 by Carlssons in Stockholm under ISBN 91 7798 5125.
The music you are hearing if you clicked on the small violin at the top is a piano piece by Robert Schumann: "Von fremden Ländern und Menschen".
